The song, from just a musical standpoint, is pretty good. However, I have a problem with people talking about the "balls" that this band has for releasing a "protest" song like this. HELLO! Bush isn't president anymore, for one, and he left office with a ridiculously low approval rating. I'd say this band had balls if they released this song in, say, 2004, but a year after his presidency ended? I think not.

Not his best

But, those who say it shows no talent and the lyrics just reflect an angry kid complaining about Bush, then i ask you to look over the lyrics again. The truth is that Conor's lyrical genius can be best seen in the last stanza.

"When the president talks to God
Does he ever think that maybe he's not?
That that voice is just inside his head
When he kneels next to the presidential bed
Does he ever smell his own bull****
When the president talks to God?"

O.k. the lyrics are controversial but what he is saying should not be misread. He is saying the president should at least think of the possibility of god just being in his head. If you don't like or agree with that then o.k., but don't claim it shows no talent or poetic prowess. With that being said I agree the senseless struming between the words dosn't help the song at all, and the lyrics alone become boring after hearing them a few times. If this is your only exposure to Bright Eyes then give them another try.
