Album Review

A legend among trance devotees in Europe, Armin van Buuren has been gradually making a name for himself as a composer of original dance music as well as a world-class DJ and remixer. His second artist album finds him taking the final step into real songwriting, working with such singers as Nadia Ali, Michael Burns, Justine Suissa and Martijn Hagens and continuing both to refine and expand his personal vision of the ways trance can be defined in a constantly expanding dance music universe. The album opens powerfully with the surprisingly breaks-based "Wall of Sound," a well put together celebration of funkiness that luxuriates in a long instrumental intro before eventually turning into a song featuring the attractive voice of Justine Suissa. From there on, things fall into a more familiar pattern: sonically pretty but rhythmically predictable club anthems supporting singers and lyricists of varying quality — on the high side, there's the faintly Peter Gabriel-ish Ray Wilson on a very fine song titled "Gypsy"; on the low side is the breathtakingly tedious "Bounce Back" featuring both DJ Remy and Roland Klinkenberg. Most of the rest falls somewhere in between, and will appeal mainly to those with well-developed tastes in the genre [A bonus track version was also released.]

Its a must have for dance music lovers

Its been a while since this album came out, but I think its definetly worth checking out. Empty State was one of my favorite tracks and one that wasn't very appreciated. Sure its not trance but still an amazing track with a lot of drive. Zocalo is a must have, one of the best tracks on the album as well. Bounce Back was pretty much unappreciated as well, and is one of the tracks that should have also recieved a good amount of attention. To finish off, Serenity ft. Jan Vayne is as well a great track worth having, has a somewhat classical element that definetly adds a whole other spin to the track.
Personally I feel that it takes a whole different kind of listener to truely appreciate these tracks and the rest of the very well made album as well.

Absolutely amazing album!!

I was not sure whether or not to get this album because I have listened to the more recent albums that Armin has released and I thought maybe since it was a little earlier in his releases of album I did not want to spoil my view on him. Then I read about how this album got many awards so I bought it and I've got to say this is one amazing album!! It has left me breathless after listening to it. I never thought that someone could have such a great imagination in music and be so skilled. But then again we are dealing with Armin Van Buuren here so it does not really surprise me so much. This album shows the caliber of music Armin can create even earlier on. Just all around a great album and I love every second of it. Armin for life!!

TOP 3 - BUY ZOCALO!!!!

It is amazing yet strange how this electric trance track is able to put me to sleep. One time on my trip to Hawaii, the plane was overnight and those are always calming. I put my headphones on, layed my head on the tray table and Zocalo was like my sleeping drug. The best track with out a doubt is Zocalo. It has a mind blowing guitar lead that is very relaxing. Then I like Control Freak and Golddigger. The rest are pretty much annoying overheard songs. But that's only because of the singers Armin paired up with.
