iTunes Review

The very definition of a D.I.Y. success story, Clap Your Hands Say Yeah has spent their first few months topping independent record store charts solely on account of press support and (gasp!) good songs. And what do they sound like? Quite simple actually: Wobbly, strikingly genuine vocals that constantly garner David Byrne comparisons, and warm, mid-fi multi-tracking, and keyboard melodies as broken-in and comforting as the vintage clothing CYHSY fans prefer. It’s nothing new, but it’s a modern indie-pop classic nonetheless.

I cannot believe people are buying this crap. His vocals make me want to stick knives in my ears to dull the pain. Are you morons in the "scene" so concerned about trying to be cool that you forget that some people just really shouldn't try to sing?
singer from Clap your hands: "I purposely sing out of tune, so that morons like you will think i am so amazing"
indie loser/poser: "wow, you are so unique! I am going to spread the word and iron your band batch on my salvation army shirt"
I think this "artist" was trying to play a cruel joke on the world when he released this crap. Probably recorded it when he was trying to take a crap. That was his muse. phewwwww! I feel better. Time to find some real music.

While the sound is certainly a nod to 80's pop, this is a solid debut with thoughtful lyrics and well-conceived songs.

Sure, the album can sound more "influenced" than "influential". Alec Ounsworth's vocals inevitably draw comparisons to David Byrne; however, I detect other influences in the music (particularly The Cure).

My favorite song on the album is "Let the Cool Goddess Rust Away". If you are undecided, this might be a good place to start.

.... wow
