Album Review
Although the album takes its cue from popular traditional gypsy music and wedding music, the music of the Goran Ivanovic Group has far more in common with jazz than its roots. Ivanovic's guitar work is excellent throughout, deliciously inventive, but he's backed by a supple group of sax, bass and drums. The big question with this disc is what you want from it. If it's a jazz album with faint roots in Croatia, then you're in luck, because that's exactly what you get. However, if you want a record of gypsy music, then this won't be for you. The writing is complex and sophisticated, and this is a killer jazz disc. Just don't expect gypsy music

Outstanding music, melody, and rhythm
by Tommy2000Another great work from the guitar phenomenon Goran Ivanovic. If you're not familiar with Goran, he's has the same level of technical prowess as Ralph Towner, Paco De Lucia, and Manuel Barrueco. You can also hear Mr. Ivanovic on an album done with his musical peer Fareed Haque.
This album has it's roots in Balkan folk music, and the excellent group of musicians working with Goran weaves a tapestry that's equal parts jazz, "world music", and rhythmically compelling. Think Oregon after their second cup of morning coffee. :-)
Highly recommended album. The guitarists out there will go nuts for this, but really for anyone who wants a fresh and jazzed-up approach to the ever expanding field of world music will enjoy this throughly.

Genius Innovation
by art@schiffThis album displays an ingenious fusion of jazz and balkan music. Although Goran is their leader and creative mastermind, they don't follow him blindly as much as push each other forward to create some of the best music I've ever heard. I saw them live in Chicago and you can see the lines of genius frustration inscribed on Goran's face as he plays his guitar melodies.
