by SandyShoreWhen we refer to Steve Raybine as an accomplished musician, it's an understatement. Dr. Raybine is not only a vibraphonist, percussionist, and composer/arranger, he is also an instructor and clinician, in addition to being the author of The Contemporary Jazz Vibraphonist: The Electroacoustic Revolution as well as Raybine's Rules: The Road to Musical Success and Personal Fulfillment, Volumes 1 and 2 and Today's Tips for Tomorrow's Music Teachers. He has received degrees from the prestigious Eastman School of Music, University of Wisconsin-Madison and the University of Iowa. As the co-founder of the progressive jazz ensemble Auracle, Steve toured the U.S. and Europe and recorded two albums (Glider and City Slickers) on Chrysalis Records. BAD KAT KARMA is right up your alley if you’re a fan of cool, fun, and highly skilled Smooth Jazz. You simply cannot incorporate vibes into the mix and not enjoy the listening experience. This new project features a laid back version of the George Benson smash, “Breezin” featuring former Auracle band mate, Rick Braun on keyboards and programming as well as acclaimed flutist Steve Kujala. Braun also appears on the beautiful ballad, “Indigo Night,” playing his instrument of choice; trumpet. We’re happy to find the Raybine original “Cha Cha Cool” included on this latest outing… You’ll also discover a hip and relaxed jazz version of Sunny” featuring the vocals of Rashad McPherson as well as something spicy called “Qurido David” and one of our favorites, a lovely little piece called, “Song For Sam.” The vibe is good on BAD KAT KARMA!
