Songs from an American soul...

by MystifiedMusic

There's nothing really 'plain' about this album and the songs on it--unless by 'plain' you mean that it's not presumptuous. Sure, there are messages, thoughts...ideas that support things like conservation and good will, but it's not in-your-face preaching.

Tom Atwood's approach is more amiable, and rather like sitting on the front porch and talking about the way things are...and the way things might be.

From Exurban Prayer's lament about urban sprawl ("Things here in this blacktop world all look the same"), to Take My Hand's optimism in facing life's challenges together ("Don't you know this path is full of changes; Take my hand, walk with me"), Tom Atwood manages to carry a spirit of hopefulness throughout his songs--even if they pause to ponder here and there.
It's a humble sort of optimism, full of soul and heart and honesty. And it makes 'Songs From the American Plain' a pleasant place to visit again and again.
