Classic flavor

by Cabin 2

This second album from Jay Clark continues what he accomplished in his first album, "Pen to Paper." It's a prime example of what the independant singer/songwriter community has to offer has captured that classic country flavor - something that's waned drastically over the years - with a raw, down-home album that begs for the hay-day of AM radio.
While "When I Get to Drinkin" (the track that's gotten the most press) is a fine piece, there's so much more hiding underneath that first track. "Progress" is a much more laid-back production than the first album, and is a bit more dark. The talent lent from stellar musicians like Robinella and Cruz Contreras (Robinella and C.C. String Band), and Jeff Barber, really round out a wholly enjoyable recording. Tracks like "These Hills" and "Constant Reminder" do for independant music what tin-type photography did for life in the mid/late 19th century: capture it with a flavor and a flare that makes the listener yearn for something less complicated in life, such as this album.
