Fly, My Locusts, Fly
by sinister privatesTypically I avoid music in this genre, but its important to add that "genre" couldn't possibly contain the tracks that unfold before one on this album. Supremely engaging, often disturbing and always entertaining "Locusts" takes you on a journey of psychedelic drama with pornographic vampirical overtones. If Dracula had a wife, this is what they would "groove" to. My favorite track, hands down, is "Bellacula" a grooving gyration of hip madness. Almost a cheer one would sing as Dracula or Bellacula morphs into a bat and "goes up in the air..." This is undoubtedly the sountrack of Madness itself; the music playing in the minds of those about to pick up an axe for all the wrong reasons. That is not to say that this album does not have a sense of humor or heart. One listen to "Sophia" and all the evidence of love becomes apparent in this album as well. I loved this album. This is music to "haunt" by.
Very experimental DIY electronic hip-hop pop
by RaskalnikrustFly, My Locusts, Fly opens with a lyrically cryptic tangle of synth arpeggios and distorted vocals, and gets increasingly unpredictable as it progresses through its cycle of not-quite-danceable electronic pop, lo-fi hip-hop and experimental voice tracks. It often veers uneasily between indie-bedroom acoustic numbers (narrated by a depressed vampire) and noodly bass-driven numbers with a pitch-shifted chorus of demented elves. It is difficult to classify but reminds me of the early cLOUDDEAD-style production.
