Sorry, it just doesn't quite make it.

I too was hoping this album would contain some of the original takes from the shows. But these covers just seem to lose the original flavor and effect of how I remember those wonderful songs. Fred by his own admission wasn't a trained singer, but this only gave the songs that honest and warm quality, making the songs even more memorable. While this album has a lot of great performers, it comes up short when trying to emulate the honesty of the one and only Mister Rogers.

I just saw John Pizzarelli on a rerun of Tony Danza and like the song he sang. But when I saw who all the other artists were on this album I just had to get it.
I played in my car on the way to work one day and I arrived in a good mood.
I like the song "Thank you for being you" what a nice tribute to a man who really deserves it.

I grew up watching Mr. Rogers and only until recently, I didn't realize he had written so many songs. Sung by a mixed genre of superb vocalists (Roberta Flack, Amy Grant, BJ Thomas, Donna Summer, etc.), these songs are as meaningful today as when first written. Unlike so many of today's "children's" songs (and I use that term loosely), these still speak wholesome messages, while also being as hip as anything else currently on the market. My nieces (ages 5 & 8) loved it. My friends' children (ages 3 thru 9) loved it. It's sad to see that some of these reviewers aren't in touch with their childhood (or don't want to be). No, it's not Fred Rogers singing them.
Or hip-hop/rap "artists" (once again, I use the term loosely)...thank goodness, but if Mrs. Fred Rogers gives it a thumbs-up, then I applaud what this album stands for.

I highly recommend this album for children, as well as adults who want to take a walk down memory lane. And I congratulate Dennis Scott (Producer) on his Grammy-award winning project!
