Ambient at it's most jaw-dropping
by NkruppRobert Rich is well-known for his creative ambient pieces, causing dreamy states and capturing many a vivd imaginations with his work. Electric Ladder is yet another sucessful album among his many fine works. Although this album in particular is more acoustic and instrumental-sounding than previous works, there is no doubting that this album still delivers the goods as Rich once again lures the human mind into a state between conciousness and unconciousness. A truly wonderful place to be, when surrounded by such music as this.
Electric Ladder suceeds on every level
by sunsingerRobert has suceeded in creating an intricate mix of space music and high vibration electronica. Ladder creates inner trance landscapes with masterful use of space music.
All the while keeping the minds focus high by using elaborate and ever shifting and flowing sequences. This subtle album reveals more upon each listening as I fall deeper into its hypnotic spell... Bravo Robert!!!
Both a Stretch and a Success
by el maharajahThe first four tracks are top notch, with 1 and 3 instant classics. They also are a bit of a departure form Rich's usual approach. They are more melodic, more instrumentated, than most of his other work. Track 5 is reminiscent of Rich's work with Ian Boddy (not a selling point for me). Track 6 is much more traditionally Richian, with his wood flute featured. Track 7 meanders and does not hold my interest. Really, this CD is like two different works on one disc. Tracks 1-4 are highly recommended, while tracks 5-7 are uninspired. Overall worth the purchase due to the strengths of the first four pieces.
