Album Review

Mimi Burns has a beautiful voice that at times sounds very familiar or new and fresh, but always melodic with excellent range. The compositions from the album use a variety of genres and styles to get their message across and are always very effective with this formula. The band is a very tight unit that compliments each musician and each composition. For the debut album from this camp, one will find its mature and professional sound very magnetic and totally engrossing. The guitar riff that introduces "Tattoo" has an infectious quality that will not quit. Mimi Burns' vocals are somewhere between Bonnie Raitt and Linda Ronstadt, with an original twist. The rhythm section features a strong bass drive with key fills by the masterful drum presentation. The acoustic lead guitar solo is a key attraction in the composition. The groove falls into a country-rock style, with a modern bluegrass essence spicing up the mix displaying creative songwriting skills. The last song from the album, "Slip Away," is an acoustic presentation with some fantastic harmony vocals. The song has a Celtic feel with mandolin nuances and an old-world quality to the melody. The drum work is excellent; on the first half of the song the toms are featured and on the last half more emphasis is put on the snare, both being masterfully expressive and extremely effective. Mimi Burns has put together a fantastic album that features some impressive musicians performing well-defined compositions. Running the full spectrum from rock to jazz and country to blues, the album contains variety that will appeal to the masses.
