Bringing Rag into the 21st Century

by Chopscicle

Critical Brass revitalizes a style of music that has remained culturaly relevant due only to its esoteric appeal. Every so often, rag is given a facelift so as to remain relevant to the times. Louis Armstrong, Chuck Mingus and even R&B stars like Common have tried to put their own spin on the style of music that birthed American Jazz. In my opinion, none have been able to capture the essence of that musical style in a modern era like Critical Brass. Their music is raw, dirty, festive and most importantly relevant. Just listen to "Sustain the Chain" and before you know it, you will 'buck it like a horse.'

Sustain The Chain

Funky, energetic, and worth buying. This band puts a more current spin and vibe to old school Jazz that just may revitalize this genere, or at least add some much needed seasoning, to mainstream music. The tracks "Sustain The Chain" and "What Goes Around" wiggles in the ear and dares you to dance even from your office chair. It must be said that this particular band is even better live.
