Very good hard rock/metal album
by jonahgA very solid album, with some stand-out songs which showcase a lot of musical talent, good recording and mixing, and very good songwriting. It's obvious that this band takes their music seriously, and it's paying off for them in buzz and radio play in Western Massachusetts. If they continue to improve, I could see this band really going places.
My only (minor) quibble with the album has to do with the recording of the drums. I'm not sure if it was the setup or simply the way they chose to mix them, but on some songs the percussion comes out on the muddy, flat side. The individual drums don't seem to "pop" as much as they should.
Despite that relatively minor gripe, I thoroughly enjoyed "Stories Untold", and look forward to the band's next album!
awesome group
by danny googzI actually was instructed under colby (the drumer) this group is an amazing as far as their musicallity. They have a unique but great rock sound for anyone who enjoys rock you won't be disappointed by this one of a kind band.
Progressive and Original
by Reedo302Under Falling Skies is a breath of fresh air in juxtaposition to lots of music coming out. This group breaks the boundaries of normal rock and metal. They have the heavy and driving guitar chords, but open everything up with a level of melodic accompaniment rarely heard in music today. This band is dynamic and powerful. The best example of this is to listen to "Silhouettes" and "Silencer." Their ability to play the same music but not make it sound the same is amazing. Most bands coming out have songs that either all sound the exact same, or half their songs sound like they shouldn't even be on the album. UFS defines what a good debut album should sound like. The guitar playing is clean-there's no slop. The singing is on key with powerful vocals. The screaming is not out of place as with so many bands. Every scream has a purpose and a place. Most metal bands have frantic drumming that seems like they're trying to keep up or make it up as they go. Most rock drumming sounds rudimentary and boring. The drums for UFS are neither. Everything is deliberate and expertly played. You don't have unnecessary drum interludes or extra beats added in, but you do get an onslaught of pounding that compliments the music; instead of just making background noise like others.
If you like bands like Trivium, Bullet For My Valentine, and Chevelle, this band is a great addition to your collection. They have many characteristics of those bands, with some from other areas as well. This is not to say they're copied their music, but those bands are the closest conglomeration that I could think of to describe this amazing new music.
To add to this, UFS has an awesome show where they all play drums and percussion. They are multi-talented and are true musicians in every sense of the word. Spend the money to get this album and be one of the few to say you had them first.
