a great moody, introspective rock record

60 Cycle Hum has a very organic sound. Collective Soul and Foo Fighters are the bands that first come to mind in terms of sonic comparisons to other bands; the 60 CH sound is definitely along those lines, with a little less youthful arrogance and a little more worldly wisdom. Each instrument has its own distinctive voice -- the guitars range from folksy and countryish ("Doubt") to heavy and driving ("Forgotten"), and the bass and drums hold it down without being too busy or jammy. Some of the vocal harmonies really sparkle.
The lyrics are pensive without being melodramatic, and the ideas and moods that are evoked have a certain poetic timelessness to them. The sound may be very tied to the world of modern rock, but the words are universal:
"Torn apart and scattered are the ashes of these days."
"All the feelings and the doubts that we hide steal our little lives."
"What to say to you? Distance grows, and I let it."
I'm looking forward to seeing what this group comes up with next. Rock on, fellas.
