Common Ground, part deux
by dogstirThe second of Common Ground’s CDs, this one finds CG with a more polished sound. Now their great songs sound even better.
The album begins with “Evan’s Park”, a rock song that received significant air play in the Central Texas area when first released in 1999. Next is “Take On The World” which continues the pace set at the start of the album and is equally as catchy.
Things slow down a bit with “Nothin’ At All” which has one of those melodies you catch yourself humming over and over again long after you turn off your iPod. The mellow mood continues with “Daydream”, a song so catchy that you just might catch yourself daydreaming about seeing these guys live.
The slower rock continues, and picks up a bit, with “Drop of Hope”, “Twisted Lives”, and “Say the Word”. Nice vocals, and flawless instrumentation, as always with this band. You can really see what a well-produced album this is in songs such these.
The rock returns with a vengeance on “Let Me Breathe” - a guitar thick almost anti-love song that you better not let your significant other hear you singing along to.
The album closes on a more mellow note than it began with songs like “Cover Me”, “Common Ground”, “Love Comes Around” and the eerily good “Inside”.
“Inside” is a two-part song, with this being the slower version, with the faster version on the band’s next CD, “Take 3”. What a find - one great song in two fantastic styles.
These whole album contains songs so good that even an agoraphobic would venture outside to get them, but now everyone can stay inside and buy them on iTunes! Thank heaven for the internet… and especially for Common Ground!
