From the paranoia-dismissing "Whatever Gets Me" to the soft, sentimental egress of "Two More Things", Dan Gonzalez demands a spot next to Dylan, Simon, and Taylor in any music aficionado's collection. With a fresh brand of songwriting, Gonzalez consistantly weaves a solid music bed to compliment powerful imagery unlocked by impressive literary skill. Vivid landscapes are painted in such cuts as "Public Square", "Through the Lies and the Beautiful" and "Wish You Were Here" (to name a few), while other cuts such as "Son of the Ground" and "Be Careful of the Gypsies" have the listener meet interesting characters that cross international borders. While most tracks are effective in any mood, some may find pieces of the album too slow to endure without the proper mindset. However, in the right state, the album comes together to guide the listener through peaks and troughs, with a result that far exceeds mere satisfaction. It's a shame that Mr. Dan doesn't find more national acclaim in the music industry. Definitely a great-buy.
