Like professional musicians on your front porch

by Uncle Tanuke

Dave Shifflett writes melodic songs with intelligent lyrics. And he manages to find female vocalists that will just blow you away. Listening to Jeanine Guidry is like taking a swim in a cool river on a hot summer day. And the instrumentation is spare in number but marvelous in execution. There are times the mandolin is like a silver trout in that cool river - sometimes just barely a ripple and then a brilliant flashing line over the rest of the music. Really, all the instruments in "The Old Sailor" take their turns in similar fashion.
It's also interesting to hear Shifflett singing "Someplace Fine" which was sung by the female vocalist in his previous "Floor Creak" project.
It's summer. Grab a big glass of sweet tea, maybe something with a little more kick. Settle in a comfortable chair as the evening cools and listen to "Songs for Aging Cynics." It'll be like you have friends who really, really know how to play and sing entertain you.
