Great American Music
by Jerry JodiceI host a weekly podcast called "The Great American Music Hour" (available on iTunes) featuring independent rock, folk, singer songwriter and Americana music from around the country. I have been a fan of Abby Travis for some time now. I fell in love with this album the first time I heard it. This is post-modern Cabaret in the tradision of Nico. In other words, a little lush, a little angular and arch, with fabulous production and vocals throughout. "Hunger" segues from lounge music into something out of David Bowie, while "Shoot For The Stars" brings to mind the circus carousel music in "Being For The Benefit Of Mr. Kite." While not mainstream, this is truly Great American Music; I highly recommend it.
