Album Review

This is first and foremost a pop album. It could be further categorized as acoustic pop or singer/songwriter pop. But what makes it a unique recording is David Goldman's implementation of a wide variety of worldwide folk influences. He seems to have accurately captured the vocal nuances of Japanese, Indian, and Mexican music as well as the stylings of American blues and Celtic music. He is joined by a large supporting cast, including Irish piper Jerry O'Sullivan, guitarists Marc Shulman and Lowell Perlman, and members of Cherish the Ladies. Through all the stylistic changes and shuffling of personnel on this album, there exists the undeniable unifying component — Goldman's voice. He has a pure, accommodating, and comforting voice that gives credence to his globetrotting tendencies. However, it also contributes to a sense of sameness at times, which prevents this album from attaining the dynamic level that his ambitious efforts deserve.

I am totally blown away by Summer With Juliet. Wow, how beautiful. It is one of the most inspiring things I’ve heard and it stands out way above the crowd. I love the variety, the writing, the production, the layering of textures, the sensitivity, David’s VOICE. His vocal work is stunning and his sensibility and love for other cultures and languages really comes through. And what a great cast of people he has supporting his talents. It really shines for me all the way through. Well, obviously I can’t say enough about this heartfelt music...except that I am very lucky to have it in my player.
