Album Review

The Renovators take one on a musical journey of melodic structures they've reconditioned just for the listener. Entering each song, the listener gets the opportunity to visit familiar, not shocking, melodies that have gone through a renovation and now shine with a new vibrance and beauty. So give up, give in, and groove to Rhythm & Blueprints, it will change the way one thinks of blues forever.

"Rip up the House" kicks off the album with a grand electric blues style. A solid bassline with some tight drumming keep the tune on a straightforward drive. The vocals are energetic and melodic in a gritty blues coloring, and the keyboard and guitar insert some clean accentuations to add depth. "Everybody Loves the Blues" has a strong swing blues style with some very powerful and expressive lyrics. The vocalist has an amazing talent for streaming off the lyrics at a rapid-fire rate. The lead guitar lays back and colors the tune sweetly along with the fantastic keys. "Renovator's Boogie" is an amazing instrumental that really rocks with a rockabilly jump to the beat. There are some very neat harmonic guitar riffs, and the solid rhythm section keeps the song intense with just the right fills. If the search is for some great guitar riffs then "Something Else" is sure to fill that void. With a ZZ Top party feel, this is a catchy number that one will find difficult to get out of their head, although it is hard to fathom why anyone would want to shake such a pleasurable melodyVariety is certainly something that the Renovators should pride themselves on delivering. "You Snooze, You Lose" has the swing style of bands like Asleep at the Wheel and Jump in the Saddle. The beat gets the joint jumping, the lyrics are fun and keep the listener's attention. Vocal electronic effects add great depth to "I Keep Dreaming"; the electronic effects continue with the electric guitar adding yet another dimension with a Jimi Hendrix, Robin Trower essence. The song aids in highlighting yet another side of this band that never ceases to amaze. the Renovators' Rhythm & Blueprints is an album that is sure to please blues fans and those that are willing to expand their listening pleasure a bit beyond the ordinary.

Just Plain Awesome

by The Floss

A friend intorduced me to The Renovators about a year ago, and ever since, I can't stop listening to them. My favorite song on this album has to be "Everybody Loves the Blues", but "I Don't Ski", "Rip Up the House", and "Excavator" are also great. I never thought that anything as good as this band or the Loft Recording Studios could come out of my town.

Driving rhythms, catchy lyrics, this ROCKS!

It's impossible to sit still listening to this album! What kickass songs!
The band is tight and the riffs are right.
Extra treat: The late great Bob Mayo is in rare form throughout the album, particularly in the twisted 'Never Really Saw Your Face', the smokey 'Who's to Blame', and the ripsnortin' 'Special Ride'.
Just a great album - with tons of humor sprinkled in!
