Cut This Guy Some Slack
by PungoBrian Gari is not Brian Wilson. That's why he's Brian Gari. He is, however, evidently a fan of Brian Wilson and has pictures of himself with the musical genius of our era on his website.
I too am one of Brian Wilson's biggest fans. I have all his CD's both with the Beach Boys and from his solo career. I've been to seven Brian Wilson concerts and love what he's doing with Pet Sounds, Smile, and the rest of his catalogue.
Brian Gari has a pretty good voice, background vocals, and musical arrangements. What he's doing is a tribute to Brian Wilson, not a rip-off. I also recommend Brian G's reissues of "The Man with All the Toys" and "Little St. Nick.' By the way, track#2 is a Brian Wilson song,

by oregonsurfgirlI have a list of reasons why this album is disgraceful and wrong in so many ways:
1. Compare this guy's voice to Brian Wilson's. Brian's better.
2. Listen to both versions of "Summer Means New Love." Originally it was an instrumental. Unless Brian Wilson actually wrote those STUPID lyrics but never used them, I reccomend buying the original.
3. Listen to both versions of "All Dressed up for School" and "Busy Doin' Nothin'." Cool beat, admittedly, but the harmonies aren't as sweet! I mean, it doesn't get better than the original(s)!
4. Do some of these songs sound unfamiliar? I know why: Tracks 2, 3, and 10 were NOT Beach Boy songs, and tracks 4, 7, 9, 11 and 13 were not singles.
5. HOW DARE HIM TO DO "CAROLINE NO" AND "YOUR SUMMER DREAM!" Some really beautiful songs "redone" by this guy! It's like an adult version of KidzBop!
If you're a novice fan, I reccomend you get songs 1, 6, 5, and 15 for the heck of it. If you're a longtime fan, (Like me) it's not worth getting. Get Pet Projects (which is not on iTunes, but it might be on eBay or something), Sunflower, Today, All Summer Long, Friends, Surfer Girl, Love You, the Good Vibrations box set, and the immortal Pet Sounds if you want the REALLY REAL THING!!!!!
