Album Review
Independent country artist Nikki Hornsby's four-song EP, Reaching Out, is a cleanly produced collection of songs with a strong gospel theme. While the professional sound is good, and Hornsby's voice is fine, the songwriting isn't exactly breaking any new ground. Multi-instrumentalist Marty Rifkin plays all the instruments on the album, and while his pedal steel guitar playing is often inspired, the lack of an actual "band" environment saps some of the energy of the songs. Still, Reaching Out is a pleasant and crisp release, with many hooks and a heart of gold.
