Awesome muscianship!
by b0ne_rangerThe guy who wrote the first review must not be that familiar with the band, because he fails to mention a main influence here: Mark Knopfler. This album is chock to the brim full of those kind of tastey guitar moments that Knopfler is famous for. Little nuggets that really show that this guitar player knows when NOT to play. Touching, emotional and poignant without being sappy and preachy, this is a great roadtrip album. Top shelf muscianship all-around and the guitarist/singer is easy on the eyes. He could have been a GAP model. What more could you ask for in a band? Catch these guys before they hit it big so you can say you knew 'em when...
Riders at The Mint
by Tony.HerreraThis group played at The Mint in Los Angeles on Nov 11, 2006 and I found their music to be refreshing and engaging. I picked up their CD at the club and it soon became a listening favorite while navigating the snarling street and highway traffic of our megalopolis we call Los Angeles.
The "Someday Soon" song is my favorite while rambling up or down the Pacific Coast Highway. The "Coalinga" song inspires me to visit this sleepy California town even if it is some "200 Miles from Everywhere".
Great Classic Rock
by 2 Screws LooseI hear hints of early Springsteen (pre Born in the USA) and whole lot of Jackson Browne in this band. But it is not a carbon copy of those two; it is new and refreshing at the same time and very musical. The songs range from that classic rock vibe on Sunday Letter and Someday Soon to a piano ballad on Too far away tonight to a funk-rock tune on Annie's Charade to reggae on Cherry Sweet.
There are some songs on here to tear at your heart too. Give Anything makes you realize the vulnerability and fear of getting into a new relationship, where as Wasted Heart shows you it is ok to learn from one that went wrong. Take Away is a true broken heart song.
Coalinga is my favorite though, it just drives. There is an energy to it that is unmistakable and it paints a really great picture too.
