An Okay Try, But Not Impressed

They were brave to try and do this with two voices and a piano, but I was not impressed in the least when I heard the previews for this album. Without a well-trained choir and orchestra involved, I do not believe they could ever produce the energy and dynamic needed to achieve what the composer intended. With two voices, there is just not enough richness and variety to the tone. The balance between the two voices were in her favor, which does not help the man hold up his part. The two did not hold true to proper etiquitte of ending consonants and vowel sounds. They sound as if they lost their focus on most of the word endings.

I expected a full choir and orchestra, but it was something else altogether. It's just hard to make Gounod sound solemn and majestic with two voices and a piano, no matter how good they are.
