All Kinds of Blues for a Sunny Day
by thatsmusic
The musicianship on this CD alone is quite impressive! While Robbie Smith is no stranger to recording CDs, this is his first solo album. Robbie plays quite an impressive trumpet and is a true performer in every sense of the word. His style is unique, his sound is pure, and his notes are perfectly executed. While the music will surely have you tapping your toes, you might even find yourself singing along to a couple of familiar cover songs, such as “That Old Black Magic” and “Willow Weep for Me.” These songs also feature the lovely and talented Miss Alicia Aragon, from the popular band Blue Largo, which Robbie also performs with in the San Diego area. Taking inspiration from the most prominent of trumpet influences, such as Doc Severinsen, Chet Baker, Clifford Brown, and Maynard Ferguson, Robbie blends his musical style with the stylistic influences of Louis Prima, Louis Jordan and Wynonie Harris. A Southern California native, Robbie currently makes his home in Long Beach while gigging steadily in the San Diego area. You can find Robbie playing with such bands as Blue Largo, The Players, The Modern Jazz Majestics, Jonny Viau and the Blues Allstars, 2000 Lbs of Blues and more. I can’t wait to hear his next CD release which is schedule to debut Summer 2006!
