This is definitely a REAL pipe band!
by NY PIPERI travel the country every year and have heard many bagpipe bands play at many festivals and perform various stage shows. I've never seen this particular pipe band actually perform but St. Andrew's has captured the most natural bagpipe band sound that I have ever heard anywhere. Although a trained ear can 'hear' various notes from various pipes slightly out of tune, that same trained ear will know that this recording is truly of an entire pipe band, actually recorded! Not just a couple of the best pipers from the band recording tunes in a studio, engineered to sound like an entire band! This is definitely a REAL pipe band recording and I give St. Andrew's five stars for it! Oh and the pipe organ at the end of amazing grace and highland cathedral will blow you away! Talk about "stunning," you can't go wrong with downloading their entire album, which you will certainly enjoy!
Phenomenal Album!
by Robert AndresonI play in a pipe band and own more than 150 pipe band CDs. Any bagpipe lover should know that these folks did a fantastic job recording this album! The downloads sound much more natural than many of the CD recordings of bagpipes that I've ever heard. Despite the compression artifacts of .aac files or .mp3s, the engineers captured each & every note on the pipe chanters just as they naturally sound in real life, not to mention the drums, brass & woodwinds. I especially love the pipe organ featured on, "Amazing Grace" & "Highland Cathedral." You should see the goose bumps rise on everybody's arms when I play these two tunes for others. It's amazing!!!
Anyway, I would like to know what equipment they used for this recording, (even-though we probably couldn't afford similar equipment for our band), but I'm hoping that somebody from St. Andrew's could please post more details? Thank you all so very much for such an awesome album!!!
Just because you can record a CD . ..
by rickpipes. . . doesn't mean you should. I thought the other two reviewers were a little harsh . . . till I heard the CD. This is very bad for piping. There are many quality recordings of good bands out there. This is not one of them. The tuning is terrible, there is no unison in the pipe corp. In short, this is the cheesy crap you would expect at a big box book store. Do yourself a favor - find Victoria Police Pipe Band, Simon Fraser University PB, Shotts & Dykehead or Field Marshall Montgomery. Get some real pipe music. This is shiite
