Somebody help me categorize this stuff...
by BujinLove this band... I've been listening to Walter Parks since back in the early '90s when he was half naked... I mean half of The Nudes. Getting back to his roots has definitely served him and his new bandmates well. Only problem I have is categorizing this music and describing it to other people. Best comparison I think I've heard is that they're sort of like ZZ Top. But while ZZ Top is definitely the product of Texas and the Southwest, Swamp Cabbage is definitely a product of northern Florida. I grew up in Gainesville, so the swampy sounds are familiar to me. Impossible to describe though... Just listen. You'll like it. And if you like "Honk," give a listen to their new album which is just coming out February of 2008. It's called "Squeal." More of the same southern fried goodness.

by Jon E.This album is played regularly at my local guitar store and somehow had sunk into my subconcious mind. One day, I began singing "I get more booty when Buddha's around" in the car and got an amazed look from my wife who asked "What are you singing??" After a couple of days of trying to figure out where the song had come from, I asked my friend who works at the store and he said "Yeah, that's Swamp Cabbage, I play it all the time."
I love blues and this music has a nice edge to it. Hope they release some more good tunes.
Cabbage Indeed !
by StratobluesmanImagine my surprise when I expected a low key offering from these guys...What I got was a combination of classic ZZ Top mixed with a dose of The Black Keys in a moment of jubilation! Foot stompin' boogie with crunchy guitar pickin' and whiskey lacquered vocals with a bit of gravel added for spice. Great job fellas, music meant to be played loud and the envy of rockin' flat pickers everywhere. Can three guys make this much noise? You bet and I hope they do it again soon.
