by hellotherenow...to the other reviewer: While "Le Petit Mort" certainly does translate as "The Little Death", it is actually a colloquial way of saying "orgasm".
Perfect Romantic Recording
by classical_music_loverThis is a great recording to play to set a Romantic mood. I purchased this after hearing a few other CDs by the same musicians who are in the Lumiere String Quartet. I often play it while making dinner or reading. It's not as heavy-sounding as a string quartet, but still sounds quite lovely and full. I would imagine this would make a nice Valentine's Day gift as well. What initially interested me about this recording was this information from the lumiererecords.com website about the title track:
"The title track, Le Petit Mort, translates from the French language as "The Little Death". This long lost work is attributed to one of the first, great female composers, Elisabeth-Claude Jacquet de la Guerre. The legend goes that before her husband passed away in 1704, she wrote this work as a gift for her secret lover who longed for her while her husband was still alive, but dared not reveal himself. This piece was a secret message to her lover that if he waited, he would experience Le Petit Mort."
I hope the Lumiere Duo makes more recordings like this one!
