Milk and Honey, indeed...
by yo, teachHave to admit, I wasn't expecting much when this band hit the stage at an American Cancer Society 24 Hour Relay for Life. The entertainment to that point had been good but not great (the Johnny Cash tribute band - With a Bible and a Gun - was nifty, though). Two songs in, I was hooked. Great energy, and a clean, crisp live performance. Thought I was listening to Rusted Root for a couple of tracks, as the band has that same sound, from the earnest vocals to the shimmering guitar runs. Check out the title track here, for the funny/sad lyrics, delivered with a desperation borne of necessity byJudd David ("I'm gonna...smoke through the pain...milk and honey") and the urgent guitars by Eric David. A different kind of urgency infuses Waiting for Tonight, an ode to the end of the workweek. If you get the chance, check this band out. I enjoyed their performance very much.

Perhaps the most refreshing aspect of Stampead is their ability to make pain beautiful. Good Respiration will force you to exhale as you are taken through the sorrowful joy of the last smoke of the night. Their take on the classic Talking Heads tune, Psycho Killer, is a true Stampead cover…it will trample all over you.
