Seaching for honest in a world of cliches

by BrettSpirit

Kevin Wood does what most artists dream to do: express themselves honestly through the medium of their craft. All too frequently artists talk about "exposing their souls" when in reality, the "talk" never fits the "walk". Instead of exposing themselves in any honest and sincere way, they choose the cliches over truth. Kevin Wood, while working to find a texture and vocabulary that will get you to listen to him, he hangs his honesty and truth in lyrics that would scare many artists. The "suprise" found on both his albums - waaaayyyyy after the last trach has seemingly finished is an example of honest - himself and a piano, raw, with some wrong notes along the way, a recording that feels like it was captured on a cassette player at Kev's house. How much more honest can you be?

In FINDING ME, Kevin takes that leap from "let me entertain you" into the domain of "welcome to my world". Like most of our private worlds, Kevin's is far from pretty and hardly unique, however, like the voyuers we all tend to be, we enjoy the oppotunity to look inside the windows of his world and see it all - unvarnished, seldom expected and yet always known.

With his rich voice and compositional skills, we willingly follow him through his personal
world as he willingly shares from his "honest" heart.

This is an album with many styles and yet all of them pay tribute to Kevin "I'm from Wyoming" Wood. This is a great album. As it is only his second, I am facinated to know which journey Mr. Wood will allow me to take with him on his next album.

A Nice Surprise

There are some very fine songs on this album. I generally am not a big country music fan, and many of these recordings tend in that direction, but some of them are just great no matter what kind of music you like.

I think "Finding Me" is the best song on the album; "The Moon Says Something", "Don't Need to Change a Thing", and "You Are Loved" are also very enjoyable. The remaining songs have a more country flavor which really did not appeal to me but which other listeners might enjoy.
