Album Review

Bobby Beausoleil's soundtrack works well enough in the context of Kenneth Anger's spooky experimental short film, complementing Anger's surreal/occult imagery with dramatic instrumental progressive rock. On its own, it's not as interesting; it sounds kind of like also-ran cosmic Krautrock that takes itself pretty seriously. It's also not as striking as the eerie instrumentals that Jimmy Page recorded with Lucifer Rising in mind (available on bootleg).

Dark and daring

The soundtrack to Lucifer Rising, recorded while Bobby Beausoleil was incarcerated, is simply a masterpiece. It has all the makings of great music: climaxes, crescendos, and all. Definitely worth checking out!

Good Sound, Mislead Public

Great soundtrack. What I'm tired of is people assuming Bobby was in the Manson family. He was not a member of the family. He bought a bad batch of drugs and sold it to a biker gang that threatened him. He asked "The Family" to help get money back to save his life from a very dangerous and ticked of biker gang. The misconception of him being in "The Family" as kept him in prison longer then he would have been had he been a regular average person.

Beausoleil played in several obscure Californian rock groups in the '60s, and fell in with avant-garde filmmaker...
