Cloudwalker Soars!
by newmexicopoetRandy Granger’s Cloudwalker is a beautiful recording. It sounds both natural, almost spiritual, and also the work of an important musician. I love his covers of “Every Breath You Take,” “Danny Boy,” and “Over the Rainbow, and the stand-out vocal of “Shenendoah,” but I think I love his original songs even more. “Organ Mountain Sunrise” and “Mourning Dove” are haunting and poignant and I can’t imagine a better instrument than the Native American flute to showcase them. “Hummingbird” is magnetic as well as humorous, and his combination of “East Wind/Amazing Grace” is emotional and moving.
The hang (pronounced “Hung”) as another dimension to his clean sound, meditative and Oriental as well as a textured rhythm (even though it’s a Swiss-made instrument). I highly recommend that you listen to his original song, “Redwood and Steel” which brings together his emotive voice with the hang and the flute. “Calling all dreamers,” he begins, and then lays down a track that can lead you to dream
