Great Album - Great Artist
by Ralph the RatI had the pleasure of hearing and meeting Kevin Danzig in Montana about 10 years ago. Even bought him and Cathe Wooley a beer at the hotel bar. I fell in love with their work and have tried to keep up with his albums over the years.
Free the Poet is an interesting album that is a combination of folk with a bit of popish beat mixed in. The melodies are infectious and the lyrics clever and in some cases downright funny, particularly Vagabond and Crow's Feet.
I highly recommend that you try out this album and his other works. I don't think you'll be disappointed.
What a fantastic album!
by Fancy FeetThis is a wonderful album from beginning to end. iTunes should note that Kevin is a folk artist, not a pop star. His style is multifaceted, combining elements of bluegrass, country, acoustic rock and folk with clever lyrics. Each song is like a short story or essay about human nature, using provactive themes, tongue-in-cheek humor and a slightly poignant longing for something elusive.
I love the entire album, but for a good cross-section, try "Thick", "Vagabond" - my personal favorite, "Crow's Feet" and # 13, which should actually read
"Beatlebob". If you like pub-style folk music, definitely give this one a listen.
