Some meh, some fantastic

I'm not into "Fire on the Sea" or the woe-is-me Irish songs (Green are the Hills, Deirdre's Lament), but most of these are just amazing. The instrumentals are a wonderful blend of Middle Eastern and Celtic, and the songs with lyrics honestly sound like they could be taken from a stage musical like Les Mis. I read the book first, then bought the album, and it made the book, good as it was, ten times better.

I've listened to more of Heather's music, and I honestly think this is her best work.

Brilliant Combination of Ireland and Africa

This album serves as a wonderful soundtrack to the novel, "Lion's Blood," and even better alone, as an artist's imagining of the music of Ireland, channelled through an African lens. Powerful!

Excellent!

Okay, so I know that the other reviewers said they were pretty disappointed- and I agree that a couple of the tracks fall flat (I actually don't like Fire on the Sea) but I think overall it's an excellent album- for Heather. I can see how some folks might not like it though if they weren't already familiar with her work. I actually found this album before I found the book and read the book because I loved the music so much- especially The Mushroom Song, We Are Bound, and Deirdre's Lament. So I'd say that if you're listening to this because you liked the book and you've never heard Heather's music before that you might be a little disappointed but if you're already a fan of Heather then you'll probably enjoy this album greatly.
