Give your ears a change to adjust

I was also disappointed in this at first - but the more I listened the more I saw Tim in the middle of the mix loud and clear - listen to "Otherize" - if you know Tim's other works you may find, as I did, that Otherize bears striking harmonic resemblance and overall tone of character to an earlier TS piece (you figure it out). This album needed to grow on me - I think its great.

I just had to forget my personal associations with dance-trance.

Very well done ...

... and _so_ beautiful. I remember Tim Story from "Babything" on a Projekt compilation in the 90s, as well as the "Soul of a New Machine" Windham Hill compilation. I adored Drop when it came out as well, and while this is a bit of a change, it's very well done and executed. Artists (and everyone else) should be allowed to explore different realms, and those who would sentence them to an eternity in the cage that their past work represents should question their motives. I, for one, would listen to a Tim Story metal record, or a Tim Story hip-hop record, etc., should he ever decide to branch out even further :-)

OK, who kidnapped Tim!??

I want him returned NOW! I can't agree that this album would be a good introduction to Tim's work. I first heard Tim Story in the "Glass Green" era and have been a huge fan ever since. This album is almost a betrayal of the style he has so elegantly and consistently weaved over the past decades. I know that it's important for an artist to grow and explore new territory. But I'm not sure this is the right direction for Tim. Maybe it will grow on me if I give it a chance.

Biography

Genre: Pop

Years Active: '80s, '90s, '00s

Though he also recorded for Windham Hill at one time, this Ohio-based keyboardist is not related to Liz Story. His intimate style thrives on cavernous spaces, an element that eventually caught the attention of Hearts of Space Records, which released what is in many ways his best album, 1991's Beguiled....
