Album Review
Babylon's sole LP became with time a very sought-after collector item and a much-appreciated minor classic of the progressive rock genre. The band's style is influenced by Happy the Man, Yes, and mostly Genesis. Singer Doroccas has the same theatrical emphasis one found in Peter Gabriel (and would later be emulated by Marillion's Fish and IQ's Peter Nicholls, among others). Songs are complex and keyboard driven, but virtuosity is not gratuitous and everything remains very melodious. Lyrics are fantasy influenced and full of literary and artistic references. The standout track is definitely "The Mote in God's Eye," a strange disquieting piece packed with subtleties. "Before the Fall" is not as well constructed and suffers from overlong passages and forgettable melodies. "Dreamfish" is another highlight, an energy-packed number full of twists and turns. The music has been remixed and remastered for the 1999 CD reissue: results are wonderful, the songs sound crisp and clear. The beautiful booklet includes photographs of the band's live show. Any prog fan fond of Genesis' Selling England by the Pound would be well-advised to find a copy of Babylon. ~ François Couture, All Music Guide

Love it!
by 1opinionI cheaped out and just bought 1, 3, and 4. Great quirky vocals (remind me a bit of Fish),
super keyboard solos, good guitar work and great drumming. Excellent symphonic prog.
Outstanding value! Buy it now.
Old Memories!
by FlaleftyIt was 1974 and Babylon founder, Rick Lenoard and I were working together in a bar band called Zero in St. Pete Beach. I was the band's manager/roadie/sound man in those innocent days.
In our off times, I would play my Genesis and King Crimson LPs to the band members. Rick was enamored with "Selling England by the Pound" and "Foxtrot". And he was a player!
I got married and graduated from USF (the University of South Florida) in 1975, returning to Orlando to take a "real job".
Rick, on the other hand, being a few years younger, was able to pursue his passions, forming Babylon - one of the un-sung great prog-rock bands of all time!
If you like old-school Genesis, buy this album!
And just a reminder, this was remastered by the late-great, musician/producer-genius, Kevin Gilbert- so it sounds great!

by Givian"The art of Navigation demonstrates how, by the shortest good way, by the aptest direction, and in the shortest time, a sufficient ship, between any two places (in passage navigable) assigned, may be conducted; and in all storms and natural disturbances chancing, how to use the best possible means, whereby to recover the place first assigned."
