Something For Everyone
by Blues WriterSarah Ayers got her start filling in for Bev (BC) Conklin for her band BC and the Blues Crew when the singer was down with a back injury. The girl from Alaska with the degree in Opera and a voice to match, became a blues sensation in the the Northeast in just a few short months. In the years that followed, she would put together her own band (The Sarah Ayers Band) and go on to win 19 music awards, including Best Female Vocalist, Best Blues Band, Best All Around Performer, Best New CD and countless others.
This sophmore release by the band shows versitility in a genre that has been the jumping off point for just about every modern music style. Blues is a state of mind, it's a tone, it's a feeling -- and Sarah Ayers and her band manage to bring it to a wide audience. "Red Dress" is a passionate song of empowerment that could have easily been sung by both a young Etta James or Joss Stone. "3 AM Ephiphany" is song writing at it's finest, every woman can relate to the emotional rollercoaster ride Ayers shares here. "Hook Me Up" and "Get It From Me" are both fun rockin' blues influenced romps with the talented Suavek Zaniesienko on bass and guest guitarist Arthur Neilson (Shemika Copeland).
With the lines of blues music becoming blurier every day, it's nice to see that Sarah Ayers and her band can tie it back to rock music and produce a CD that exposes the genre to multi-generational fans. Watch for the Sarah Ayers Band on tour in 2008 -- as it seems she'll be traveling to compete in the International Blues Challenge in Memphis. If this CD is any indication, she'll be visiting more cities in no time.
