An absolute must-own!
by CernovogWhether you're a fan of comic books or science fiction, or if you're waxing nostalgic for the pop-culture images of childhood, Super Secret is a must-own.
This is the penultimate Ookla the Mok embracing everything they represent. "Super Powers" "Theme from Super Skrull" and "Stop Talking About Comic Books or I'll Kill You" are everything a comic book fan could want in music. They embrace geekdom in a way no band has and when you are blown away by their music, you're left scratching your head wondering why it's taken so long for music to sound this good.
"My Secret Origin" perfectly captures the angst of many adult Americans today. The intelligent, creative imaginative thinkers in school who suddenly find themselves shoveled into a line of drones like lemmings wasted in 9 - 5 tech support jobs can be heard screaming angrily at the world through the voice of Adam English.
For crazy, wild, wacked-out pop culture madness and '70s nostalgia, Super Secret is simply peerless.
If Ookla the Mok can't be famous, no one deserves to.
by Mister EOokla the Mok creates a kind of postmodern-folk-rock that takes its imagery from comtemporary life—it's TV shows, comic books, and science fiction instead of sharecroppers and whaling ships. Their sound evokes "quirky" groups like They Might Be Giants, Barenaked Ladies, and The Arrogant Worms. Every song on this album has a catchy melody and a lyrical wit nigh unprecidented in the pop world. There's a few, such as "My Secret Origin" which are flat-out brilliant. This album has a bit of filler, which keeps it from being a 5-star, but it's still a great listen. If you're a geek or know one, this is your sound track.
