Since their inception in early 1990, Autumn's Child has proven not only is the Native American Flute a storyteller in its own right, but it is also one of the most versatile instruments on the world stage. Described by visionary lead flutist/composer Mark Holland as “Global Chamber Music”, Autumn’s Child lends a contemporary flourish to their kaleidoscopic blend of diverse musical flavors from various cultures and genres. Boasting melodic infusions of everything from folk/jazz/Eastern/classical/reggae, Holland’s ensemble creates eclectic soundscapes of vivid complexity and unique beauty. Within the first few moments of the opening track, “From a Raindrop to a River”, as the flute’s haunting melodies soar with the rich, dark acoustics of the cello, it becomes clear that these adept virtuosos have already exceeded the boundaries of traditional Native flute music and embarked into undiscovered territory that is all their own. On “Wind’s Song”, spirited sitar from India harmonizes with cedar flute in an audible experience that combines modern stylings with ancient sensibilities, making for an original aesthetic unlike anything heard by either Eastern or Western audiences.
