Don't Keep This Lady Waiting

A stalwart of the Austin country scene for so long that her daughter, Melissa Sellers, is now a singer/songwriter in her own right, Poodle Lynn returns with Don't Keep This Lady Waiting, a collection of old-fashioned country and blues tunes playing up Lynn's bawdy ol' broad image. She ain't talkin' antique furniture when she advises listeners on the wisdom of getting some "Old Stuff" into their bedroom, and unlike Elvis, she sticks to the original lyrics of the old R&B standard "One Night of Sin." She's no Candye Kane, though, preferring to stick to the gentler side of euphemism. Musically, the album is utterly straightforward, mostly acoustic traditional country heavy on the pedal steel and honky tonk piano, adequate but not particularly inspired. Overall, Don't Keep This Lady Waiting sounds like what it is, the work of a better than average Austin bar band with no apparent motivation to be much more than that. And what's wrong with that?
