Solid second effort from two good indie rockers
by Gladiator2008Similar to The Eels or early Perishers. They know how to run the gamet of emotions and genres. The money tracks are definitely, "Rock n Roll" and "I'm not the Only One". I must say though, there aren't any bad tracks on here. I'm excited to see what they'll come up with next.

Backwards Is Where The Treasure Is
by Robert in TexasOne of many paradoxes in "Moving Backwards" is it's title. Because in this beautifully arranged, melodically infectious CD, A. Rex takes a huge leap forward from his first effort, "Brief as Lightning". While that CD showcased his talent as a songwriter and provided a preview of things to come, this one may be the best CD in the pop/rock genre I've heard in many years. Although no two songs sound alike, it is largely a rock and roll album. His lyrics often reflect loss and broken relationships, but in many of these songs they provide a unique and stark contrast to the music, which is at once uplifting. You often don't know whether to smile at the songs' sheer brilliance or dance or cry or all three. And while no two songs are alike (everyone who's heard it seems to have different favorites), there are no bad or mediocre songs here. This is all good stuff. Unlike the dinosaurs A. Rex uses as a trademark, he is evolving. The Beatles did this, always creating songs that sounded different from what they'd done before. A. Rex seems to have that ability as well, which should guaranty him success.
