Peter Murphy Voice

by Belly Girl

Sounds like a guy who, while the world is playing musical chairs, grabs the girl in the corner with the belly-button ring and the tattoo and leaves.
His voice goes straight to my.....

Perfecto!

Max X's music is just what I have been looking for. Mental Haze and Town Called Down have a great sound to them. There is finally a rock-type music that doesn't have that annoying, whiney, singer behind the mic. His cool sound makes the songs easy to listen to under any situation: waking up in the morning, or winding down after a long day of work. There is only one problem that I have....Why didn't your music come out earlier! Thanks Max!

Max X's must hear debut "Ride In Your Eyes"

by Blue Player

A very bright spot in the new music scene, each of Max X's songs off of his debut album, "Ride In Your Eyes" seems to have it's own personality, to create a character and a mood not unlike the meloncholy genius of a Bruce Springsteen's "Streets of Philadelphia" (or nostalgic "Glory Days) and always layered with a hip, 80's-reminiscent groove. A sound that such recently successful band like Blue October and the Killers seem to be shooting for.
Max X has the talent for showing the beauty in the sadness, the hope in the despair and the strength in the struggle. He has a bit of the spit of the Violent Femmes, a sort of James Dean-loner struggling for emotional closure and good woman. Billy Idol's "Eyes Without A Face comes to mind" as well as hints of U2.
Max X's distinctive vocals sometimes have the Hushy gravel of a Richard Butler (Psychedelic Furs) and sometimes the authoratative swagger of a Johnny Cash, but always a deep baritone that floats it's way through a song like smoke through a baroom door and out into the midnight city streets.
While the title track "Ride In Your Eyes" is certainly the most radio friendly, be sure to listen to the words of "Pink Champagne", Max X's songwriting truimph that will make you chuckle with it's irony and perhaps mist up with it's heart.
