New Stuff!

I wish she would put her new tracks up as singles! I love VELCRO HEARTS!..and i do not think wishing well is weak..it's my favorite song.

Superb songwriter with polished, compelling songs.

In my opinion, the first song in the collection, Wishing Well, is the weakest and even it is pretty good. My criticism with Wishing Well is that some of the lines feel forced and that it is the song that sounds closest to a standard country tune. Besides that, the rest of the album is excellent. It is easy to see the talent that won Stahler a John Lennon songwriting prize. Jane is heartbreaking and the anger at an unjust God rings true when the path of least resistance would have been to write about pity, rather than sadness. Weather the Storm is not just a love song, but a commitment song about the endurance and strength of love. I Blame Me is a witty reproach of both self and some unnamed lover. Someone You Love is anthemic in its cry for parental approval. And best for last, Sinking In is a phenomenal song. I heard it played on an independent radio station on a Sunday night and was so moved, I tracked it down and purchased the album. As a bonus, if you get to see her live, (opportunities abound as she keeps a brutal schedule), she puts on a great show. The show is polished without feeling stale and her desire to share a song, a story, a performance, an evening with acquaintances who may be friends by the end of the evening is delightful. It frees the audience to take each song on its own terms so, for example, the audience is free to hear the song Jane and feel the pain that is not quite contained by the song even as the joy of Someone You Love goes beyong the lyrics in happy leaps and bounds. Definitely worth the purchase, especially in its entirety.
