'Til The Last Shot's Fired

by sammywonda

Not long ago I had the opportunity to hear Rob at a live performance in Columbia. It was in an open MTV Unplugged type setting, and I could not help but think how conducive that environment was to truly having the opportunity of hearing the real Rob Crosby perform. It was just Rob and his accoustic guitar, and as I sat there listening, watching, and thoroughly enjoying, I was struck by two other things that I found delightfully intriguing - 1) That over the years his musical abilities and, in particular, his dexterity with the guitar had continued to evolve. In essence, as good as he was way back then, 10 years ago, and even 5 years ago, he was a better musician now. 2) His voice had matured and ripened, losing nothing that was always there, but having been improved upon by the gain of a much more worldly and richer sound. The combination of those two elements within the confines of that setting made for an absolutely awesome night.
Rob has always been a great songwriter, but hearing these songs from the "heart of the writer" gives me the pleasure of "getting it all". If 'Till The Last Shots Fired doesn't reach Top Ten status , then something is woefully wrong with the industry.
