by Claire A.These are fine performances by clarinetist John Reeks and the Loyola Quartet. Reeks' interpretations of the familiar Brahms and Schumann works are solid and sensitive, and (as orchestrator Harold Seletsky writes in the program notes) when heard in the voices of string instruments, the intricacies of Brahms' accompaniments become surprisingly more apparent.
This compact disc, showcasing these useful additions to the repertoire for clarinet and string quartet, is all the more valuable for including a printable score and performance parts.
