Album Review
The Trojans is the band of vocalist and multi-instrumentalist Gaz Mayall. Mayall produced the Ska Island compilation for Island Records. Here, we hear his own Chumbawamba-goes-ska version of the album. The Trojans tour extensively, have an extensive discography, and enjoy a Thursday night residency in London. Unfortunately, the production quality is low. At least one of their two saxophone players works some mean squeals into a solo, and Gaz' piano splashes work very well with the music. The Trojans' strengths are their array of instrumentation, which is more diverse than most ska bands offer, and their lively, European style of the subtropical genre.
