Funk Thunder’s debut CD, “Your Move” is a groove reminiscent of Parliament/Funkadelic thrown with the charisma of James Brown. Its primary rhythms of Funk, Jazz, and Soul form its backbone. Its experimental arrangements use texture to fill an audio mélange of artistic pieces. On certain tracks, like Enlightenment, you’ll find Robert’s fragile voice float above a solid groove, and no other piece could be so compete as Jazz Cat- a improvised guitar line by Vella with Roberts weeping voice as he reminisces about his deceased Uncle; an artist’s album in all respects. Distraction is the essential song for “the creative” and in “Compassionate Man” one gains the secret to life’s understanding. No better song, can define this compilation than “The Captain” with lyrics like “Facts built on lies we hold, building blocks of certain events, secrets you wanta keep safe, are you as scared as I, to reveal the mess we call life?” are omnipotent.
