jason corder's 'off the sky' has turned out an already huge catalogue of excellent material,
whether guitar-based ambience or clik-and-cut electronica. no matter where he puts his
hand, jason's mark is there- and with so much material that will make you feel elevated
without insulting your intelligence, as many of his peers do, that's a high standard.
in the 'geist cycles' corder's interplay with a group of excellent musicians with instruments
as diverse as cello, guitar, laptop, piano, violins and vocals comes together under his careful
eye. one would expect a group setting to have a more jazz or rock feel, but this material is
ethereal, pure heaven. at times one has the feel of an ensemble working, other times one
has a glimpse of vast ambient space. the feel is one of consistent beauty, no matter which
end of the spectrum it comes from. tiny bits of percussive dashes and dots serve to heighten
the feel of its own unique space. pick up on this and take yourself to a place you may
have not know even existed, or better yet, have looked for almost in vain. most highly
