Feels like Lennon and Harrison

by digthebeatles

It's obvious that there is a Beatles influence in the music here. Not all, but many of the songs have a definite John Lennon sounding vocal, and the slide guitar playing is most definitely remimiscent of George Harrison's playing. Barden is obviously a musician, that is, he plays his instruments, especially the guitar, extremely well.

But not every song has a Beatles sound. Carol's Perfume has a Simon & Garfunkel folk sound (along with a Dylan sounding harmonica) and the instrumental Elusive One is a very polished smooth jazz tune. Barden even has a Ska rhythm in A Simpler Life. It's a very catchy tune that won't soon leave your memory!

The album is very easy to listen to. Barden's voice is pleasant but it's apparent that he's a guitar player first. There are guitar solos on almost every song and that's something that you don't hear very often these days. Overall, the songs have a "throw back" sound but at the same time they're very modern sounding.

I highly recommend Talulah Lake.
