Melancholy You Can Dance To!
by StandardDeviantFor the last decade Psykick Girl has been encumbered with having to live up to her own musical brilliance…probably complicated by a search for other musicians and technical experts who can complement her amazingly unique style. In her 2002 release “The Needle Has Landed” she set our expectations with stunning vocals ranging from the soulful “Goddess” to the powerful “Iron-Hearted” and inadvertently set high watermarks for her audacious and off-kilter style. Her release of “We Are Electro” more than meets those expectations with complex and engaging musical arrangements like “Nitroglycerin” and “Deconstruct”. Her lyrics are as deep and poignant as previous work, and aside from the upbeat track “So, You Like Techno” there is an intense and melancholy undercurrent throughout the album. Tracks like “Jehovah” and “Meadowlark” highlight her heartrending lyrics that run the gamut from a sense of sad defiance to quiet resignation.
We Are Electro is addictive!

I mean check out the chorus in Jehovah...if you don't end up singing the refrain after two listens then your musical soul needs retooling...and I can't get that retro-funk guitar anthem in Those Days out of my cerebral pathways...and you know what? I don't want to...The Doves is simultaneously breathtaking and heartrending;From what repository of pain and experience does this melodic line emanate from? Surrender willingly to the rhythmic power and persuasion of Deconstruct..and Psykick Girl closes down this incredible house with Breathe...easily one of the best New Artist albums of 2007
